Lindsey is super right about the length of an episode not always being associated to the amount of words you have. But, if you do want a good estimator, a good benchmark is about a minute per page of script (in the right format).

You also have to consider the speed of how people are talking, any music or sound effects you’d want to have, etc.

Try scripting a few pages, record it and time it. It’ll give you a good sample of how long it takes you to read each page, and it’s good practice.

Try listening to a podcast that has transcripts, and comparing the length of time with the number of words in the transcript. For example, this episode of Girl In Space runs about a hair over 38 minutes, and the transcript is right below.

Hope this is helpful!
